The Tigers had two players pick up weekly honors on Monday.
LSU linebacker Jacoby Stevens and safety Maurice Hampton were selected as the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for their performances in Saturday’s 56-20 win over Arkansas.
Stevens set career highs for sacks (3) and tackles for a loss (4) while also recording 8 total tackles in the victory.
This is the second time this season that Stevens has earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The first time occurred after the team’s win over Mississippi State.
For the season, Stevens leads LSU in sacks (5) and that is the third most among defensive backs in the country. Stevens also has 73 tackles (39 solo) with 8.5 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions and 5 pass breakups.
Hampton rose to the occasion starting in place of the injured All-American Grant Delpit as he recorded 6 tackles. Hampton helped the Tigers hold the Razorbacks to 304 total yards of offense.
Hampton is in his first season at LSU after turning down a $1.8 million signing bonus from the San Diego Padres this past summer to play football and baseball at LSU.
No. 1 LSU (11-0, 7-0 SEC) wraps up the regular season at home on Saturday against Texas A&M. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
