The reigning Miss Basketball in Louisiana had another strong season, and Country Day’s top boys basketball standout won another state championship.
Caroline Bradley of Oak Grove averaged 27 points per game with more than 17 rebounds, five blocked shots and 2.4 assists per game as the 6-foot-5 junior became the Class 2A outstanding player for the second year in a row, as selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Meanwhile, Kellen Brewer of Country Day became outstanding player in 2A boys basketball. The 6-6 junior guard averaged 20.1 points per game with more than six rebounds, three steals and nearly two blocked shots per contest as the Cajuns defeated Calvary Baptist in the Division III select state final.
Brewer’s father, Corey, is an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans a former professional basketball player and a lottery selection out of Florida in the 2007 NBA draft.
Bradley is a first-team all-state selection for the third time. Brewer made the first team for the second time.
The two coach of the year winners ended long title droughts for their schools with Shawn Davis guiding the Ferriday boys to their first title since 1989 (Division IV nonselect). He was a standout player on the first of the Trojans back-to-back state championship teams under his father Robert Cade in 1988.
Jake Bourgeois led the French Settlement girls to their first crown since 1964 (Division III nonselect) with a 44-36 win over Westlake.
