For the first time in 64 years, the Lacassine Cardinals were crowned as state champions in boys basketball.
As for the Fairview Lady Panthers, they claimed their second consecutive state championship and the 16th in school history.
And both now lay claim to the top players in the state as a panel of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association have chosen seniors Kane Broussard and Reesie Jinks as the best of the best in Class B.
Broussard averaged 21 points per game in leading the Cardinals to the state championship in Lake Charles during Marsh Madness, while Jinks scored 23 points per game in guiding the Lady Panthers to its 14th state title this century in Hammond.
Broussard was joined on the first-team squad by Lacassine teammate and fellow senior Jordan Garcia (16 ppg.), Zwolle senior Preston Sanders (26.8 ppg.), Avoyelles Charter junior Armonii Benjamin (16 ppg.) and Simsboro senior Trumarion Smith (17.5 ppg.).
Fairview sophomore A.J. Williams (16 ppg.), Bell City junior Payton Herpin (18.5 ppg), Anacoco senior RayLee Mitchell (17 ppg) and Oak Hill senior Jodie Jowers (17 ppg.) joined Jinks on the girls’ first-team squad.
Anacoco Lady Indian coach Tim Parker and Lacassine’s Micah Rasberry were chosen as Coach of the Year recipients. Parker, who announced his retirement from coaching, led Anacoco to the LHSAA tourney for the fifth time in his eight years at the school, while also eclipsing the 800-win mark during the 2025 campaign.
