Mark Ingram didn’t practice this week, according to Saints coach Sean Payton, but the running back’s injury is not expected to be serious.
Ingram also sat out last week’s organized team activity with what Payton termed then as a foot or ankle injury, but the move is strictly precautionary.
“We just sat him,” Payton said. “Today, we sat him. It’s nothing significant. This time of the year, we want to be smart and kind of go from there.”
Several other Saints were present at practice, but held out of any on-field work. Wide receiver Marques Colston, outside linebacker Junior Galette and rookie defensive back Damian Swann were all present and in uniform, but did not practice.
Rookie linebacker Davis Tull, who’s recovering from March surgery to repair a torn labrum, and safety Jamarca Sanford did not practice with the team, but both players were seen working with a trainer on the field at the beginning of practice.
Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe missed practice for an undisclosed reason.
“He’s excused today,” Payton said. “Without getting into any specifics on everybody, it wasn’t injury related.”
A couple of young players, undrafted tight end Jack Tabb and defensive end Glenn Foster, did not appear to be at practice.
