The McNeese Cowboys, LSU Tigers and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns had players receive weekly honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
McNeese running back Marcus McElroy has been voted as the LSWA’s Offensive Player of the Week.
In Saturday’s 21-10 win over Houston Christian, McElroy rushed for a career high 136 yards on 12 carries, averaging 11.3 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns.
LSU freshman linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. was selected as the LSWA Defensive Player of the Week.
In a 13-10 road victory at Arkansas, Perkins was a machine as he recorded eight tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.
Louisiana kicker Kenneth Almendares was selected as the LSWA Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Ragin’ Cajun kicker had a career performance in the team’s 36-17 win over Georgia Southern on Thursday. Almendares hit all five of field goal attempts, tying the school record for most made in a game, as he made kicks from 48, 34, 27, 42 and 40 yards.
