The McNeese Cowgirls Softball claimed two Player of the Week Awards for the Southland Conference Monday afternoon.
The San Antonio Native and Louisiana Junior transfer Kendall Talley started with a 2 for 3, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Cowgirl 7-5 victory over UL- Monroe. Sunday’s doubleheader against Houston Baptist ended the week strong for Talley going 6 for 6 and running home her first Cowgirl career home run. She led the Cowgirls last week with a .889 batting average and a 1.556 slugging average.
Talley claimed the Hitter of the Week for the Cowgirls in the Southland Conference.
The Sophomore Splendora Texas Native Shaelyn Sanders claimed the Pitcher of the Week for the Cowgirls from the Southland Conference with a weekly ERA of 1.11 and held the opponent’s batting average to .136.
Sanders (6-0) opened the week with her first save of the season against UL-Monroe. During the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against Houston Baptist, the Sophomore added her sixth win to her record. Sanders struck out 12 Huskies, sitting down HBU in order in 2 ½ innings straight.
