The McNeese Cowgirls showed no mercy in a 11-1 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Evanston Regional on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
McNeese plated 10 runs in the top of the first.
Kendall Talley led off with a single through the right side and was joined on the base paths by a single by Jil Poullard. Both players advanced on a throwing error.
Crislyne Moreno then doubled to left field that drove in two runs and she scored on a single by Kaylee Lopez to center field.
After a pop up by Alayis Seneca, Chloe Gomez reached on a single and advanced to second on the throw. Reese Reyna drew a walk to load the bases.
Toni Perrin hit a single into left field which scored two more runs.
After a ground out by Josie Willingham, McNeese’s Talley would reach on an error by the first baseman which allowed Reyna to cross home plate.
Poullard then hit a single to left that scored Talley and two batters later, two more runners scored on a single by Lopez.
Notre Dame plated a run in the bottom of the second but that was all the Fighting Irish could muster. McNeese would tag on a run in the top of the fifth.
BIG NUMBER: 10
McNeese scored 10 runs in the top of the first and did so on eight hits, two walks, and two errors.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: JIL POULLARD & WHITNEY TATE
In a game where seven different players recorded hits, Poullard shined the brightest after going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Tate meanwhile gave up one run while scattering five hits over five innings.
UP NEXT: McNeese (39-19) will now play regional top seed Northwestern (41-10) at noon on Saturday.
