The McNeese Cowboys men’s basketball team had an incredible year in 2023-24.

They won 30 games, the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles, and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. They accomplished all of that under first year head coach Will Wade.

And now, the Cowboys have been named Small College Team of the Year by Major Madness. The publication had McNeese ranked #2 in their final Small School poll of the year.

It was a record setting season for the Cowboys, including setting a new program mark for wins. In addition, they went a perfect 18-0 inside the Legacy Center and won 14 games in a row at one point.

Major Madness also announced that Shahada Wells was a part of the Small Conference All-America First Team.

Wells was also the SLC Player of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year. The TCU transfer who is originally from Amarillo, Texas averaged neary 18 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists. His 3.0 steals per game ranked 2nd in the entire country.
