McNeese’s Shaelyn Sanders was nearly unhittable last week.
In wins over Southern University and Baylor, the sophomore pitcher produced a 0.0 ERA, allowing only five hits and striking out five batters in 9.2 innings of work.
For those dominant performances, the Splendora, Texas native received her first Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday.
“I think the story of us beating Baylor on Saturday was Shaelyn Sanders,” McNeese softball coach James Landreneau said. “She threw 6.2 innings and was lights out. I thought she pitched extremely well and didn’t have a lot of hard contact. In 9.2 innings of work this weekend she didn’t allow a run.”
Sanders, who played last season at Blinn Community College, is 4-0 on the season, giving up 10 runs in 32.1 innings of work, and posting a 2.16 ERA.
McNeese (12-14) returns to action on Wednesday with a home game against Southern Miss. First pitch at Joe Miller Field at Cowboy Diamond is set for 6:30 p.m.
