
McNeese’s Christian Shumate will get the chance to show his high-flying abilities.
The Cowboys star, known for his “Shu Slams,” has earned a roster spot on the King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship team for the 36th Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Thursday.
Shumate is one of six players taking part in the slam dunk competition held in the Final Four host city. The event will air live on ESPN at 6 p.m.
The back-to-back Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Shumate helped guide Will Wade’s team to consecutive conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Cowboys star also helped the program earn two NCAA Tournament appearances and helped them to their first-ever NCAA Tournament win, a 69-67 victory over Clemson.
Shumate had a team-high 47 slam dunks this season.
The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites 24 of the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and three-point shooting bragging rights.
The night features the King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the E*TRADE Men’s 3-Point Championship, the Hanes Women’s 3-Point Shooting Championship, and the Dave’s Hot Chicken Hot Shot Challenge. The winners of the Hanes Men’s and Women’s 3-Point Championships will then compete in the Skechers Battle of the Champions.
