LAKE CHARLES — McNeese return specialist Cam Thomas has been selected as the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
The junior transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College fielded a first quarter kick-off and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown in Saturday’s 52-34 loss to Tarleton State at Cowboy Stadium.
Thomas’ score was the first touchdown return for a Cowboy since September 18, 2021 and is tied as the ninth-longest touchdown return in school history. It was also the 14th kick-off return for a touchdown of 90 yards or more in McNeese history.
Houston Christian running back Champ Dozier was named the SLC Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns in the Huskies’ 66-0 win over Arkansas Baptist. Southeastern Louisiana defensive back Ian Goodly was named SLC Defensive Player of the Week after he made 15 tackles in Saturday’s loss at Mississippi State.
McNeese will return to action on Saturday when they visit Florida for the first-ever meeting. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
