LAKE CHARLES — Will Wade has hired his first assistant coach.
The new McNeese men’s basketball coach has officially hired Brandon Chambers as the first member of his Cowboys coaching staff.
Chambers had previously worked with Wade at LSU for the 2021-22 season when he served as a special assistant. The two also worked together at VCU under former head coach Shaka Smart from 2009-11. Chambers served as a student manager while Wade was an assistant. The Rams, with Chambers and Smart on staff, advanced to the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2011.
Chambers’ coaching career began at Misericordia University where he served as a assitant coach from 2011-13, before moving on to serve as an assistant at Marymount University from 2013-14.
After a year coaching high school basketball, Chambers returned to the collegiate ranks as the video coordinator at Nevada for the 2016-17 season, and then was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations the next two seasons. The Wolfpack went the the NCAA Men’s Tournament all three seasons, including reaching the Sweet 16 in 2018.
Chambers then served on Johnny Jones’ staff at Texas Southern from 2019-21, including a trip to the NCAA Men’s Tournament in 2021.
He reunited with Wade at LSU for the 2021-22 season and then spent this past season back at Texas Southern, both seasons those teams made the NCAA Tournament.
