We’re over halfway into the NFL regular season and we’ve had plenty of up’s and down’s so far. If your fantasy squad has struggled thus far, there’s still time to salvage your season. Here are some players who have matchups that I love and hate this week.
LOVE
Justin Herbert – Herbert’s next matchup will be against the Minnesota Vikings, who have given up big game to quarterbacks. Even Cooper Rush diced up that Viking defense. Herbert is tied for fifth in the NFL in touchdown passes and Minnesota is 10th worst in passing touchdowns given up.
James Conner – Conner has been a touchdown machine these last few weeks and will have an even bigger role with teammate Chase Edmonds expected to be out for their next three or four games. Expect for Conner to average 20 touches in that time.
Michael Pittman – Carson Wentz and the Colts have leaned heavily on Pittman as of late. Their next matchup is against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who average over 22 fantasy points given up a game.
D’Ernest Johnson – With the news that Nick Chubb has COVID and Kareem Hunt won’t be activated for week 10 because of his calf injury. The last time Johnson started, he racked up 25 fantasy points and has a decent matchup in the Patriots who are middle of the pack to stop the run.
Mike Gesicki – Gesicki has been consistently okay, putting up about 10 points the last couple of weeks. The Dolphins play Baltimore, who as a team is second worst in fantasy points given up to tight ends. Also, if Gesicki scores a touchdown, it will continue his odd pattern of getting into the endzone once every three weeks.
HATE
Dallas Goedert – Goedert has been solid since Zach Ertz was traded to Arizona. This week looks very bleak as the Eagles face the Broncos in Denver. Denver’s defense has been stingy against tight ends as they rank second in fantasy points given up to the position.
Myles Gaskin – Gaskin had a very good matchup against the Texans and had one of his worst rushing games this season. This next game is completely different as the Ravens run defense is ranked fourth best. Gaskin though, could find the pay dirt this week as Baltimore allows a rushing touchdown a game.
Corey Davis – Whether Davis starts or not, I am not looking to start any Jets receivers as the Bills rank first in passing yards given up and in fantasy points given up to receivers. Even though Mike White has earned another start, I get the feeling the hype train will come to end with Buffalo.
Damien Harris – The Patriots backfield has started to look more like a back by committee as Harris’ snap percentage has decreased as Brandon Bolden snap percentage has gone up. The Browns are one of the better run defenses in the league and Harris hasn’t shown himself to be a dual-threat back and catch passes consistently.
PJ Walker – Sam Darnold is expected to miss the next four to six weeks from a shoulder injury. Walker’s stats as a starter includes five interceptions and only one touchdown pass. His matchup will be versus the 8-1 Arizona Cardinals who are tied for fourth best in sacks and third in takeaways.
