Multiple LSU Tigers Declare for NFL Draft

As the Monday deadline to declare for the NFL Draft draws closer, it was expected that several players that participated in the National Championship Game that happened just a little more than 48 hours ago. 

When it came to the LSU Tigers, six underclassmen wasted little time making their decision on social media, forgoing their senior season and will enter the 2020 NFL Draft.

Grant Delpit was the first shoe to drop on Wednesday at around 1:43 pm.

“We are champs,” Delpit wrote in a post on social media. “We hoisted the trophy for you and LSU fans everywhere. I’ve decided to move on to the NFL. I will carry the joy and excitement of this season with me forever.”

The next hammer to fall was the defensive MVP of the National Title game in Patrick Queen. Queen tied Jacob Phillips with eight tackles against Clemson and collected a game-high 2.5 tackles for loss in the 42-25 win.

“My time at LSU has given me an unbreakable bond with incredible people,” the inside linebacker said in his social media post. “The opportunity to wear the purple and gold was a childhood dream. Upon realizing this dream, the goal turned to winning a national championship.”

The next player that announced was wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who thanked his brothers Jordan and Rickey along with head coach Ed Orgeron in his social media post.

Center Lloyd Cushenberry followed that up at around 3:30 p.m. with his social media post saying that “It’s been a dream of mine since I was 8 years old … Now it’s time to turn my dreams into reality.”

The other starting inside linebacker in Jacob Phillips declared for the draft, saying that “The past three years at LSU have been a dream come true. I am and will forever be a champion.”

Just a little after five o’clock, another key cog in the offensive line in starting left tackle Saadihq Charles. The Nashville native mentioned in his statement that “I look forward to sharing this next chapter of my life with all of you. The best is yet to come.”

The final player to declare for the draft on Wednesday was running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. In his statement he thanked several people including Director of Player Development Kevin Faulk, who he mentioned as showing him the way.
