Malik Nabers made history on Thursday night.
In a 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the former LSU star and rookie wide receiver hauled in a career-high 12 receptions for 115 yards, including a 39-yarder that was the Giants’ longest completion of the season.
The No. 6 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft also became the third rookie since the 1970 merger with double-digit catches and 100-plus yards in a prime-time game, per NFL Research.
Through four games this season, Nabers has 35 receptions for 386 yards which puts the former Comeaux High and Southside High star in elite company. He becomes just the third player in the Super Bowl era to record 30 or more receptions in his first four games. The other two players were Puka Nacua who had 39 for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, and Anquon Boldin (30) for the Arizona Cardinals in 2003.
It wasn’t all positive for Nabers in Thursday’s game.
With 3:21 left to play, the former Tiger star attempted to make a diving catch along the sideline and came down hard. Nabers was able to walk to the locker room under his own power but was quickly ruled out thereafter.
Nabers is in concussion protocol and will have 10 days to clear it before the Giants’ next game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 6.
Nabers was a consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist at LSU after having a monster season for Brian Kelly and the Tigers in 2023. Nabers pulled down 89 receptions for 1,569 yards, scored 14 receiving touchdowns, and averaged 120.7 yards per game.
Nabers left LSU as the program’s all-time leader in receptions (189) and receiving yards (3,003) and accomplished the feat in three seasons. Nabers is one of two players in program history to top the 3,000-yard mark in receiving yards, joining former Rayne High star Josh Reed (3,001 yards from 1999-2001).
