LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will return to the Tigers in 2025, he announced on Wednesday. The decision comes after he had considered entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Nussmeier became the starting quarterback ahead of the 2024 season after waiting his turn behind Jayden Daniels for the last couple of seasons. He led the Tigers to an 8-4 record, racking up 3,739 passing yards. He completed just under 64% of his passes with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
The news of Nussmeier’s return should significantly help the Tigers heading into next season, as that room’s depth had been questioned recently. Five-star recruit Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment to Michigan at the last minute, and freshman Rickie Collins entered the transfer portal this week. With Garrett back in the fold, the Tigers will bring back experience and not have to insert a player who does not have experience in their system.
Nussmeier will look to join the recent run of LSU quarterbacks who greatly improved in their second year as a starter. Both Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels had solid junior seasons, but exploded as seniors on their way to each winning the Heisman Trophy.
LSU will take on Baylor in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl on December 31st at 2:30 PM. You can listen to the action on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
