Instead of declaring for the NFL draft, Ole Miss Rebels wide receiver Cleveland “Tre” Harris III has announced he will stay in Oxford, Mississippi for the 2024 season. The announcement was made Monday afternoon.
Harris is a Lafayette native who spent his high school days playing football and basketball for the Comeaux High Spartans. On the gridiron, Harris was the team’s star quarterback who tossed touchdowns, including to teammate and LSU Tiger star Malik Nabers.
Once graduating in the spring of 2020, Harris decided to take his talents to the next level, and a new position as he went to go play for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
During his second season in Ruston, the 6’2″ pass catcher made the jump in production to 40 receptions for 572 yards and four touchdowns compared to one catch for 20 yards in his freshman year. In 2021, Harris was even more productive, finishing the season with 935 yards and 10 scores on 65 receptions.
That uptick in production caught the eyes of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin as they brought him in for a visit. Harris would make the move from Conference USA to the SEC and transfer to become a Rebel.
In his first season in Oxford, the senior receiver quickly became one of quarterback Jaxson Dart’s favorite targets. In his first game with Hotty Toddy, Harris exploded against Mercer, recording six catches for 133 yards and four touchdowns in the 73-7 win. Then, for game three versus LSU, Harris was one of many to have a big game as he made eight grabs for 153 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 39 seconds to go in the contest.
Harris’s best game this season was against Texas A&M where he recorded 213 yards and a score on 11 catches in a 38-35 win over the Aggies. Those big games led to Harris finishing the season as the Rebels’ leading receiver in yards with 851 and touchdowns with eight.
With one more year of college eligibility, the Acadiana native will return along with other Rebel teammates for one more chance to win the SEC and improve their stocks for the 2025 NFL draft.
