LSU Tiger Head Coach Ed Orgeron was putting together a Top 10 recruiting class after securing 21 commitments during the Early Signing Period in December. With only four spots remaining, Orgeron found himself in a bind, still going after five players. He did get Safety Kelvin Joseph & WR Ja’Marr Chase which certainly helped, but was still holding out for DB Patrick Surtain, Jr. and QB James Harris, which cost him.
Missouri prep DB Mario Goodrich wanted to come to LSU, but Orgeron told him to wait until after Surtain made a decision. If LSU told you to wait with Clemson on the line, what would you do? Goodrich commits to Clemson then Suratin picked Alabama.
Orgeron was hired because he was ‘the recruiter’. Also, because he would accept less money while LSU paid for top coordinators. Meanwhile, Tom Herman and Texas have the #3 class and Jimbo Fisher in College Station nabbed the QB the Tigers wanted in Foster.
Looks to me, LSU got exactly what they paid for in Ed Orgeron.
