The transfer portal is officially open in college football as hundreds of players are looking for new opportunities.
Two players from the local area, Ole Miss quarterback Walker Howard and Arizona State defensive back LaTerrance Welch, have joined that list.
Howard, a St. Thomas More product that was ranked as one of the highest QBs in his class, began his career at LSU, where his father played, before spending the last two seasons at Ole Miss. For his career, Howard has a stat line of 5-of-10 passing for 63 yards. He also has 33 yards rushing.
Howard went to Ole Miss and learned from offensive mastermind Lane Kiffin as well as his record-breaking quarterback Jaxson Dart, who now holds the program record for passing yards that was once owned by 2x Super Bowl champion and New Orleans native Eli Manning.
Welch, a standout at Acadiana, spent two seasons in Baton Rouge before transferring to Arizona State, who just captured the Big 12 title and a spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff. He has 19 tackles and two interceptions for the season with the Sun Devils, bringing his career stats to 33 tackles with a pair of INTs. His interception in a 35-31 win over UCF was returned for a touchdown.
