With their 16th win of the season Thursday night in Arlington, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are off to their best start in over four decades. They’ve won six straight and 12 of their last 13 with their only loss since Thanksgiving to the Clemson Tigers. And yet, they have issues filling the seats at the revamped Cajundome.
Cajun fans desperately want out of the Sun Belt and who can blame them. They are limited to what bowls the football team can go to and the basketball team will go to the NCAA Tournament only if they win the conference tournament. But none of that has anything to do with the attendance at the Cajundome.
Last Saturday, LSU drew over 13,600 for a game against Alabama while the Cajuns had less than 6,000 for ULM. I’d be shocked if more than 1000 Tiger fans knew about Collin Sexton and he was the reason why they decided to buy last minute tickets. Of course not. The Tigers won a couple of big games on the road and they packed the PMAC.
This year’s Cajuns may be the best ever. Will they ever pack the Cajundome? They certainly deserve to.
