An accident off of Louisiana Highway 104 took the life of 63-year-old Sharron Hampshire of Ville Platte.
Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated the incident shortly before midnight on June 8th. The preliminary investigation showed that Hampshire was walking near the eastbound fog line of LA Hwy 104 while a 2016 Honda Pilot was traveling east.
The driver of the vehicle was properly restrained and was not injured while Hampshire suffered fatal injuries, dying at the scene. The driver of the vehicle voluntarily provided a breath sample that showed no alcohol was in their system. The crash remains under investigation, and results from a toxicology sample from Hampshire are awaiting.
Practicing pedestrian safety when walking near and crossing roadways can help minimize the likelihood of crashes. Walking against the flow of traffic can allow pedestrians to anticipate approaching vehicles and respond effectively. Also, when walking during darker hours, opting for brightly colored attire or reflective accessories enhances visibility for drivers.
Troop I has investigated 16 fatal crashes resulting in 17 fatalities in 2024.
