The New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Washington Wizards in overtime 117-115 on Friday.
Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram scored 34 points, but it wasn’t enough as New Orleans is now 25-31 for the season.
How It Happened:
The Wizards jumped out to a one-point lead after the first quarter. They outscored the Pelicans 30-29.
New Orleans led through most of the opening quarter until Daniel Gafford’s dunk with 2:18 remaining gave the Wizards their first lead at 25-24.
It remained a one-point game going into the halftime break. The Wizards led 62-61 after the first half. Both teams scored 32 points in the second quarter.
The Wizards led 47-34 with 7:47 left in the half. The Pelicans managed to trim the deficit to one possession entering the second half.
New Orleans entered the fourth quarter with a three-point lead. They outscored the Wizards 28-24 in the third and led 89-86.
It was a low-scoring fourth quarter. The offense slowed down for both team as they combined for 35 points in the fourth.
The Pelicans led 105-98 with 2:15 left in the game after Zion Williamson’s made field goal.
Russell Westbrook tied the game at 105 after his layup sent with 1:07 remaining essentially sent the game to overtime.
Westbrook hit the game-winning free throws after Williamson fouled him with one second left.

The Pelicans have not managed to put together wins on the road this season. They are now 9-17 on the road.
Player of the Game: Russell Westbrook
Westbrook took over the game in the overtime period. He recorded 36 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in the win.
