The Pelicans are seeking to make Boston Celtics director of scouting Darren Erman the first member of new Coach Alvin Gentry’s staff, NBA sources confirmed and earlier report by ESPN late Monday.
Erman was the architect of a top-three defense with Golden State until he was famously fired late in the 2014 season for supposedly taping a conversation with other Warriors coaches who had been working to undermine his game preparation.
The team called it “a violation of company policy.”
Erman had worked with Doc Rivers with the Celtics from 2007-11 before joining the Warriors under then-coach Mark Jackson, who was fired after last season.
Gentry is remaining with the Warriors through the NBA Finals which begin on Thursday, but has been working on assembling his staff with the Pelicans as well.
