The legend of Jared Poche continues to grow in 2017. He nearly made history last week with back-to-back no hitters last weekend against Maryland and Saturday afternoon he was able to shutout Baylor (10-1), snapping their undefeated record.
After neither team could really get anything going offensively, Cole Freeman got the LSU Tigers (9-4) out in front with an RBI single to center field. Later in the inning, Antoine Duplantis made it 2-0 with an RBI single to right field to send Jordan Romero home safely.
The Tigers put the final nail in the coffin in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot from Greg Deichmann to right field, his fifth homer of the season. Beau Jordan was able to follow that up with a single to the Bears shortstop, but after a throwing error, Jordan Romero was able to score the final run.
Poche improved to 3-0 on the year with seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out five batters.
The Tigers will wrap up the weekend at Minute Maid with a matchup against Texas Tech (10-2) with first pitch set for 10 am.
