Throughtout the state of Louisiana, Acadiana High School is known as a powerhouse in 5A high school football.
Six state championships since the turn of the century is just one of the many accomplishments of this historic Wreckin’ Rams program and in 2023, Matt McCullough’s team is looking to add to that tally.
Domincik McKinley has been one of the mainstays on this team, especially defensively. The five-star prospect that is currently committed to play college football at Texas A&M had 80 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior while adding two interceptions from the defensive line.
He is the subject of this week’s Prep Profile.
QUESTION: What can you tell me about this season, making it to the second round of the playoffs, and this big matchup against Carencro Friday night?
ANSWER: It was really tough. A lot of tough practices and preparing ourselves during the offseason to get us where we are now.
Q: When you hear or see someone talk about you being a five-star recruit and one of the best players in the country, what does that mean to you?
A: It’s really special because I know that there are some people who never get to this level and can’t experience this process.
Q: You’ve been one of the leaders of this team, especially on defense. You brought up the tough practices, so what was it like for you to be one of the guys everybody looked up to?
A: I’ve tried my best to be inspiring to my teammates because I want to help lift them up and make them better every day.
Q: What are you most excited about in terms of this playoff run and hopefully getting Acadiana back to the state championship?
A: I’m excited to see how far we can get in the playoffs and the opponents that we are going to play along the way.
Q: What are some goals for the postseason for you? Then, once you get to college (committed to Texas A&M), what are some things you want to accomplish?
A: I just want to work harder and be the best version of myself I can be on the field.
McKinley and the Wreckin’ Rams of Acadiana High School will battle with Carencro this Friday night in the second round of the Division I Select LHSAA Playoffs. The Rams and Bears last battled each other three weeks ago, where Acadiana held on to win 27-26 and capture the District 3-5A title after finishing the regular season 8-2. The Rams had a first-round bye into the playoffs so this will be their first game in the bracket.
Kickoff for this contest from Ted Davidson Field at Bill Dotson Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Pregame can be heard beginning at 6:35 on MeTV 97.7 FM with Kohl Guilbeau, Monty Hanks, and Nick Fontenot on the call.
