The Cecilia Bulldogs have been impressive on offense, which has led to them having a 4-1 record. Their most recent win came last Friday as Cecilia beat Notre Dame 35-20.
Brent Gordon, who stood out for the Bulldogs in the win, got involved in multiple ways. Gordon caught four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown while getting a few touches on the ground for 19 yards and an additional score.
Not only has the junior been impactful on offense, but he’s played very well in his primary safety role on defense. On the season, Gordon has recorded 48 tackles, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, two pass breakups, and a defensive touchdown.
Question: What were you seeing from the defense that allowed you to have the game that you had?
Answer: My coaches and I noticed that the Pioneers’ defense likes to play a lot of man coverage. They like to give separation between their safeties and corners and we knew they wouldn’t be able to help. I was faster than their corners so I was able to get on top of them a lot.
Q: How much pride do you have in being able to play on both sides of the ball effectively?
A: I take a lot of pride behind able to play on both sides and there’s a lot of work that it takes behind the scenes. During the offseason, I wasn’t expecting to play offense but after talking with my coaches, they told me I’d have to work hard for it and it’s been paying off.
Q: What’s it been like playing alongside a quarterback like Diesel Solari?
A: It’s basically like being in a show or a movie that you’ve seen over and over again. He’s a guy that’s hard to stop and we call him “Prez” because he’s different.
Q: Which NFL player do you model your game after and relate to the most?
A: I think I relate the most to former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed. Just the way he comes down to hit ball carriers and his ability to cover receivers.
Q: What’s it going to take for this team to beat Breaux Bridge and improve to 5-1 on the season?
A: All it will take is for us to stay locked in. We haven’t been too focused because of all of the trash talk between both teams and the rivalry. It’s taken away from our play in the game so if we can stay focused, we will blow them out.
The Cecilia Bulldogs will look to improve to 5-1 on the season as they host the Breaux Bridge Tigers this Friday. Kickoff for this game will be at 7:00 p.m.
