The Teurlings Catholic Rebels are off to a 5-1 start to the 2023 high school football season. That included a 38-14 win over the Westgate Tigers last Friday.
One player for the Rebels who stood out on both sides of the ball was Travis Gallien as he scored a touchdown in multiple different ways in that win. In that game, Gallien caught just three passes on the night but picked up 104 yards on the night and scored a touchdown. The sophomore also intercepted a pass and returned the ball 39 yards for another score that led to the 24-point victory.
The opportunities have been limited for Gallien but he’s been able to make the most out of them. On offense, the wide receiver/tight end has caught seven out of his eight targets for 300 yards and has scored three touchdowns. On defense, the young linebacker has recorded six tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and that interception that was returned for a touchdown on 12 snaps.
Question: What allowed you to be effective on offense and defense last Friday against Westgate?
Answer: Last week, Coach Charpentier said that I was going to have to step up on defense because a couple of our guys were hurt. So I stepped up to lead my team, helped encourage our goals, and did what I could for us to win.
Q: Talk about your pick-6. What were you seeing from the Tigers’ offense on that play?
A: Throughout last week’s practices, I told Coach Charpentier that it was my time to get my pick-6. I already knew what they were going to run and that the running back was going into the flats. I followed the running back, caught the pass, and scored.
Q: Where have you grown the most in your sophomore season from the beginning of the offseason to now?
A: I’ve seen myself grow the most at wide receiver. It’s been big for me to play in that position this year since I had never played there before. This is my first time really playing on offense a lot because I was so used to only playing on defense.
Q: Which NFL player do you model your game after relate to the most?
A: I would have to say that DK Metcalf is the NFL player that I relate to the most.
Q: What will it take for this team to rise to the occasion and beat the LCA Knights tonight?
A: It’s going to take a lot of hard work. We will need to come out playing hard and playing how we’re supposed to play. We need to play with aggression, with physicality, and we need to be smart.
The Teurlings Catholic Rebels will gear up for a big-time matchup versus the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights. Kickoff for that game will be tonight, Thursday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m.
