The Louisiana men’s basketball team has added two players to its roster over the holiday weekend.
The Ragin’ Cajuns announced on Sunday that former Oregon State and Georgia guard Christian Wright had signed with the team.
“Christian fills a need for the team at the point position,” Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Bob Marlin said. “He brings experience from playing major minutes at Georgia and Oregon State. Christian is an excellent defender whose best quality is getting in the paint and creating for his teammates. We welcome Christian to the Ragin’ Cajun family.”
The Georgia native appeared in 29 games last season for the Beavers, making 14 starts. He averaged 3.4 points and dished out 21 assists while averaging 18.4 minutes a game. He twice scored in double figures last season, doing so against Troy and Arizona State.
In his lone season at Georgia, Wright started 11 games and was one of three players to see the floor in all 32 contests for the Bulldogs. He had a breakout performance against No. 18 Memphis, scoring a career-high 17 points along with six rebounds.
The addition of Wright comes a few days after the team added junior college star Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, who was the fifth leading scorer in the country in the NJCAA at 25.0 points per game.
“Mo is a talented basketball player with a good skill set,” Marlin said. “He had a big year at Indian River and was one of the top scorers in the NJCAA. Mo creates for others and is a good rebounder with his size. He’s versatile and will play multiple positions.”
The Rabat, Morocco native scored 20 or more points in 17 of his 23 games at Indian River State College last season. El Moutaouakkil’s biggest highlight was a 58-point performance against Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. That game he was 18-of-28 (.643) from the floor and 20-of-24 (.833) from the free throw line.
Wright and El Moutaouakkil joins a reloaded Cajun roster in 2024-25 that includes fellow signees forward Jeremiah Evans (Southwood High School), forward Duncan Powell (Sacramento State), and forward Kyndall Davis (Eastern Illinois).
