The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (2-1) struggled early on in Saturday’s contest, but a trio of performers helped them get past LSU-Shreveport, winning 84-73.
How It Happened:
The Pilots took control early in the contest with a triad of three-pointers to take a 9-4 lead before an early timeout for Louisiana. Out of the timeout, the Cajuns went on a 14-0 run to go up 21-9 with 13:20 left. However, LSU-Shreveport responded with three straight field goals and continued to chip away at the lead that Louisiana had amassed.
A 9-0 run with six minutes left until halftime for the Pilots put them back in firm control and didn’t let go, taking a 43-40 lead into the locker room. The Cajuns did come alive to start the second half, with the key cog being Dou Gueye, who put up 12 of his 17 points in the final twenty minutes. The game officially became out of reach after an 18-4 run capped off by two straight three pointers from Alexandria product Cedric Russell.
Big Number: 3
The Cajuns pulled off a rare feat on Saturday afternoon, having three players put up double-doubles. With Mylik Wilson, Gueye, and Theo Akwuba all taking control they combined for 48 points and 32 rebounds.
Player of the Game: Dou Gueye
A lot like Wilson against UNO earlier in the week, Gueye’s second half performance was the spark needed to put the Cajuns over the top .
