The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns began their final series of the regular season with a 10-1 win over in-state rival ULM on Thursday night at Lamson Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
ULM took the lead in the top of the first as leadoff hitter Jayden Mount hit a solo home run off of starter Summer Ellyson.
Ellyson would then walk Alysia Anderson, give up a fielder’s choice to Korie Kreps (Anderson was out at second) and then a single to Kennedy Page to load the bases.
Ellyson got out of the jam as she got Andie Edwards to hit into a double play.
ULM wouldn’t threaten again as Ellyson settled down and shut out the Warhawks the rest of the way, as the former Teurlings Catholic star would give up just one run on four hits while striking out seven in five innings.
The Ragin’ Cajuns tied the game in the bottom of the frame as Ciara Bryan led off with a standup double to left-center. Bryan would score on a fielder’s choice by Alyssa Dalton.
The Ragin’ Cajuns blew the game wide open by plating seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Justice Milz led off with a single up the middle. Kendall Talley drove in Jenna Kean (who was pinch running for Milz) with a single to left field.
After a run scored on an error, pinch hitter Bailey Curry drove in two runs with a single through the right side of the infield, and then Dalton would drive in another run on a groundout.
The barrage of run scoring concluded with a solo home run by Julie Rawls.
The Ragin’ Cajuns wrapped up the run-rule game in the bottom of the fifth as Karly Heath hit a one-out two-run home run over the left field wall.
