After having not played a game in nine days, and haven’t won a game in two weeks, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns got back on track Saturday afternoon inside the Cajundome. Louisiana defeated in-state rival ULM 76-55 to improve to 12-4 overall and 4-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the first quarter. After ULM’s Bre Sutton made a jumper with 2:44 left in the quarter, the game was tied 14-14. Louisiana’s Ty Doucet answer with a layup, drew the foul and made the free throw. A pair of layups by Doucet and Ashyln Jones helped give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 21-16 lead at the end of the first.
ULM managed to cut the lead down to four points in the second quarter but every time the Warhawks did that the Ragin’ Cajuns answered with a bucket or two to push it back to six or eight points.
At the break, Louisiana led 37-30.
Louisiana took control of the game by starting off the second half with a 7-0 run which pushed the lead up to 14 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns maintained that double-digit lead for most of the third and closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run, featuring three points from Doucet, and led 58-43 at the end of the third.
Louisiana pushed its lead to as much as 22 in the fourth as the Ragin’ Cajuns picked up its fourth win of conference play.
