Louisiana started slow to end in dramatic fashion with five runs in the fifth and sixth to secure game one in their three game series against the Trojans.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
A couple of runs to first don’t make it for the Trojans as they retire to the side with no runs and zero hits. Louisiana tried to make a run for it in between swings as three outs came by with Stormy Kotzelnick stranded to end the first inning.
Only three pitches came through to the Cajuns for a single RBI and homer are added to Alexa Langeliers statistics with a big hit to left field bringing home Karly Heath. Only one more hit left a runner left on base to retire the end of the second inning.
Back to back fly outs ended Troy’s at bat swinging to both sides of the field. Louisiana falls to the same fate with their chance at bat of a double ground out and a foul to leave Maddie Hayden stranded on third.
A ground out sandwich led to no runs or hits for Troy as they retired to their side for their fourth goose egg inning. The Cajuns fall under review in their attempt to get on base with no success of a run.
The Trojans got their first real taste of the bases with pinch runner Emma Grace Walker advancing to third before a fly out to center field only inches from a homer for Jade Sinness. Louisiana’s first baseman Kotzelnick came ready to swing with her six home run of the season going high enough to surpass the scoreboard at Lamson Park.
Troy brought in a run with a change up by Louisiana pitcher Sam Landry to send in Walker on a double by Taylor McKinney to center field, their only run of the inning. A slow start to the sixth inning for the Cajuns as they ended in running fashion as Jourdyn Campbell brought in a three-run triple.
The Trojans took their final inning and struck out swinging to end the game 7-1.
BIG NUMBER: 3
An explosive at bat for Campbell bode well for the Cajuns to widen the gap to 7-1 as she hit a three-run triple to secure the win for Louisiana.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jourdyn Campbell
Fourth time’s the charm for the third baseman Campbell as her first triple of the season came with a 3RBI that helped end the sixth inning for the Cajuns final runs.
