RAGIN’ CAJUNS GAMER: UL Beats Ole Miss For Second Time in School History

The University of Louisiana women’s basketball team defeated Ole Miss on the road 53-42 for just the second time in program history. 

Their first win over Ole Miss was in 2015 when the Ragin’ Cajuns went into Oxford and won 82-78. 

The win also marks the third time in school history the UL women’s basketball team has beat a Southeastern Conference opponent. 

With the win on Friday, the Ragin’ Cajuns are now 7-3, matching their season win total from last season. 

How It Happened:

UL got out to a fast start in Oxford. They led 20-9 after the first quarter behind an 11-1 run in the opening frame. Ty Doucet provided six points to give the Ragin’ Cajuns the early advantage. 

Ole Miss started to cut into the deficit by using a 9-0 run of their own.They trailed by just six points with under three minutes left in the second quarter. 

Doucet scored four of the next six points for the Ragin’ Cajuns to take a 30-20 lead into the halftime break. 

Ole Miss brought the UL lead down to as little as four points in the second half. They held the Ragin’ Cajuns to nine points in the third quarter. 

UL led 39-33 going into the final quarter. The Ragin’ Cajuns never relinquished the lead as they outscored Ole Miss 14-9 in the final 10 minutes of action. 

Big Number: 21

The Ragin’ Cajuns scored 21 points off Ole Miss’ 19 turnovers. UL racked up nine steals and held Ole Miss to just 43 points on the night. 

Player of the Game: Ty Doucet

The UL forward poured in 16 points to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns offense. Doucet grabbed seven rebounds and shot 5-of-7 from the field and  6-of-6 at the free throw line for an efficient offensive performance.
