The University of Louisiana men’s basketball team fell to 9-14 for the season after a 71-66 loss at Texas State.

How It Happened:

It was competitive out of the gates. The Texas State Bobcats jumped out to a narrow 8-7 lead.

Ragin’ Cajuns guard P.J. Hardy scored five of UL’s seven points.

The two teams scored four combined points over the next three minutes of action. Texas State maintained their one-point lead with 11:58 remaining in the first half.

The sluggish start for both offenses continues throughout the first half. Texas State managed to increase their lead to four, while UL went six minutes without scoring a field goal. The Bobcats led 17-13 with a little under seven minutes to play in the opening half.

Texas State ended the first 20 minutes of action leading 30-23.

UL’s offense wasn’t able to fix their offensive struggles early in the second half. They scored three points in the first three minutes and Texas State led 35-26 with 16:40 left in the game.

The Ragin’ Cajuns hit four consecutive field goals, but the Bobcats kept control of the game. They led by 10 points with a little over 12 minutes to play.

UL went cold once again as they scored just five points in the next 5:22. During that span, the Ragin’ Cajuns shot 1-of-8 from the field.

Texas State saw their 13-point lead decrease to five, but they closed out the game for the home conference win.

The Ragin’ Cajuns’ two-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon. They are now 4-8 in Sun Belt play.

Big Number: 23

UL was cold on offense to open up the game and they were not able to overcome the slow start. They only scored 23 points in the first half. The Ragin’ Cajuns managed to score 43 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to get the road win.

Player of the Game: Alonzo Sule

The Texas State forward came off the bench and provided 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Sule also recorded eight rebounds in 21 minutes. The Bobcats forward gave them a scoring and rebounding punch to lift Texas State to their 14th win of the year.

Up Next: At home vs Georgia State, Thursday Feb. 6; Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
