The University of Louisiana men’s basketball team struggled to score and take care of the ball in their 90-52 loss to the Georgia State Panthers.

How It Happened:

UL opened the Sun Belt Conference road game shooting 1-of-9 from the field. Freshman guard Calvin Temple scored the only field goal through the opening four minutes as the Ragin’ Cajuns trailed Georgia State 8-2.

Georgia State continued their strong start by going on a 13-0 run to take an 18-2 lead.

The Ragin’ Cajuns went over nine minutes without scoring. UL freshman guard Jaylon Williams broke the scoring drought with a 3-pointer, but Georgia State increased their lead to 25-5 with 7:52 remaining in the first half.

Georgia State took a 47-19 lead into the halftime break.

UL started to string together points in the second half, scoring six points in the first five minutes. However, Georgia State used another run to bring their lead to 65-27.

Junior guard Cedric Russell got it going after halftime. Russell went scoreless in the first half, but recorded nine points out of the break.

Georgia State maintained their lead throughout the rest of the game. They led 88-46 with 1:58 remaining in the game.

UL’s two-game conference winning streak came to an end on Thursday night. Georgia State cruised to a 90-52 win over the Ragin’ Cajuns. UL is now 7-10 on the season.

Big Number: 22

While the Ragin’ Cajuns struggled to score against the Panthers defense, they also turned the ball over 22 times. Georgia State took advantage of UL’s mistakes with 28 points off of turnovers.

Player of the Game: Corey Allen

Georgia State’s starting guard Corey Allen recorded a game-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. It only took Allen 19 minutes to rack up the game-high scoring total.
