Ragin’ Cajuns Sophomore pitcher Bo Bonds was named Pitcher of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference office in New Orleans on Tuesday.
The award was given to Bonds for his 14 strikeout performance Friday night against South Alabama in the friendly confines of ML Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park.
Bonds, a sophomore from Live Oak, Florida and a transfer of Chipola Junior College, threw 5.2 innings Friday night in relief of Brandon Talley, giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and 14 strikeouts, with the only run against him being Cameron Tissue’s solo shot in the 11th to break the tie between the Jaguars and Cajuns.
After being named Pitcher of the Week, Bonds becomes the second Louisiana pitcher to receive the award, with Jeff Wilson getting in on March 15 for his complete-game, 4 hit, 10 strikeout gem against Houston on March 13.
Bonds has really been efficient all season for Matt Deggs and his staff, pitching 24.1 innings, giving up 8 runs (7 earned) on 12 hits, 11 walks and 42 strikeouts. His season ERA sits around 2.6 for the sophomore right-hander.
Bonds and the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (11-12, 2-4 SBC) will look to keep the momentum rolling as they play against Southeastern Louisiana (8-16, 0-3 Southland) tonight in Hammond. First pitch from Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
