After posting the first complete game of his collegiate career, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns right-hander Jeff Wilson was selected as the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Wilson tossed a complete-game, four-hitter while striking out a career-best 10 batters to earn his first career decision in a a 10-1 victory over the Houston Cougars on Sunday.
After throwing 28 pitches in the first inning and giving up one run, Wilson would allow a leadoff single to Rey Mendoza in the fourth inning before retiring 17 of the final 18 batters he faced.
Wilson’s performance is Louisiana’s first quality start of the season while the first complete game by a Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher since Connor Cooke accomplished the feat against Arkansas State on April 10, 2021.
Louisiana (8-7) will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Lake Charles to face old rival McNeese (9-7). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark.
