University of Louisiana senior guard Cedric Russell helped lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a pair of one-possession victories last weekend. For his stellar play, Russell has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Russell averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in last weekend’s two-game series at Texas State, beginning on Friday with a 21-point performance with three 3-pointers in a 62-60 victory.
Russell wrapped up the week with his seventh 20-point game of the season, as he scored 24 points with a season-high six three-pointers in a 74-73 thriller on Saturday. Russell went 9-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-9 from long range in Saturday’s finale.
The Alexandria native moved into 29th place on the school’s all-time scoring list in Friday’s game as he passed Anthony Johnson (1,224) and Peyton Townsend (1,240). Russell, who is third in school history with 238 career three-pointers, is averaging 17.9 points per game which is third best in the SBC.
