LSU will be taking on arch rival Alabama this Saturday without one of its starting linebackers.

LSU senior Michael Divinity Jr. has reportedly left the football program. The 6-foot-2, 241-pound outside linebacker was a starter for the Tigers this season as he recorded 23 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss and 3 sacks.

The Athletic first reported that news on Monday morning.

Divinity, a four-star recruit out of John Ehret who began his high school career as a quarterback at John Curtis, was an early enrollee in 2016 and played right away as a freshman. After playing as primarily as a backup his first two seasons, Divinity Jr. became a starter last season when he recorded 54 tackles and was tied for a team-high 5 sacks, also had 9.5 tackles for a loss and 8 quarterback hurries.

Divinity Jr. has battled injuries this season, including suffering a serious leg injury on the road against Vanderbilt earlier this season. Divinity Jr. played in only 5 games this season, with 3 of those being starts.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman said that sources informed him that Divinity left the team for “personal reasons.”

The Tigers are undefeated and ranked as the top team in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll. LSU will take on Alabama this Saturday with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m.
