The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the sports world.

According to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated, 30 of LSU’s 115 players are in isolation because they have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in contact with people that have tested positive.

There are players that have been quarantined after visiting Tigerland, a host of nightclubs near LSU. The 30 players are isolating with their roommates on campus, according to the report.

Despite the players either testing positive for COVID-19 or coming into contact with someone who has, no player or team personnel has been hospitalized.

Senior associate athletic trainer Shelly Mullenix spoke to Sports Illustrated following the report.

“It’s not surprising we’re seeing the rise right now,” Mullenix told SI. “It’s a pandemic. The story is that it’s exactly what we said it would be. We were prepared from the get-go for a lot of virus. The good news is we’re seeing subtle virus illness.”

This news comes after 28 members of the athletic department testing positive for COVID-19 at Clemson, with 23 being athletes in the football players. Each of the members will be isolated for at least 10 days, according to The Athletic.

It was reported on June 18 that 13 Texas football players tested positive for COVID-19. Six student-athletes at the University of Houston tested positive as well and the university announced they will suspend voluntary workouts. Another 14 student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19 at Kansas State, which led to the university suspending all voluntary workouts for 14 days.
