March is here, which means it’s time to fire up the college basketball bets as well as a major stretch in golf. Meche and Miguez have their best bets for the weekend, including a couple of value plays that could pay off big.
Georgia vs LSU
Matt: Georgia +11.5 (-120)
The first matchup between these two teams needed overtime to decide it, and I know this one will be just as tight in the conference tournament. LSU wins, but not by more than 11.
James: Over 133.5 (-120)
In their previous matchup, LSU did have to go to overtime to win 82-77, but that was the result of a rough shooting night from the Tigers. I could see this game being a 78-68 type of game with LSU coming out on top.
Sun Belt Men’s Tournament Winner
Matt: Marshall (+230)
I hope I’m wrong on this one, but the Herd are going into Pensacola as one of the hottest and angriest teams in the conference. SBC Player of the Year Taevion Kinsey will put on a show to get to a semifinal matchup with the Cajuns and find their way into the Dance.
James: Louisiana (+320)
The Ragin’ Cajuns were able to make it to the Sun Belt tournament final last year with a lesser squad. This year Louisiana has looked more impressive throughout the season, including going undefeated at home and having the runner-up Sun Belt Player of the Year in Jordan Brown.
Pelicans vs Warriors
Matt: Brandon Ingram 25+ points (-175)
BI has played 13 games since returning from injury at the end of January and scored more than 25 points nine of those games, including 40 against Portland on Wednesday. Golden State will have difficulty controlling him, considering he scored 34 on the Warriors in November.
James: Jordan Poole over 2.5 Threes (-180)
Poole has made at least three three-pointers in eight out of his last 12 games and the Pelicans’ defense has been suspect over the last couple of weeks.
Pennzoil 400 Winner
Matt: Austin Dillon (+5000)
Dillon ran near the top of the field at Daytona until the big wreck at Lap 203, then turned around and had a Top 10 finish last week at Fontana. Considering the odds are where they are, this could be a solid value pick.
James: Kyle Larson (+700)
Larson always finishes high in races and is usually a safe pick. In his last 10 races in Las Vegas, he’s finished in the top 10 eight times, including a win in March of 2021.
Arnold Palmer Invitational Winner
Matt: Jordan Speith (+1600)
Spieth has been itching for a win, as it’s been nearly a year since he won the RBC Heritage. He had a Top 10 finish at the WM Open in Phoenix and will look to stay in the mix this weekend in Orlando.
James: Xander Schauffele (+600)
To this point, Schauffele is tied for second in the tournament at six under and just three strokes behind Kurt Kitayama, who usually isn’t at the top of the leaderboard. This could lead to an opening for Xander to come out on top.
