Ryan Fox rebounded from going even par through the first two rounds to win the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Southport, England. This was Fox’s first Major Championship win and third overall victory. The other two were the RBC Canadian Open and Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic in 2025.

Fox entered Sunday’s final round at -8, two strokes behind the tournament-leading golfer, Sam Burns. The former LSU Tiger finished his 18 holes at +2, dropping him from first to third in the final standings.

The New Zealander bogied twice on the both nine on holes 11 and 15, yet birdied on four separate occassions in that time and recorded five on the day. Fox also made birdie on hole 16 and 18 with his final hole securing him the win over Canmeron Young, who finished the tournament at -9.

For Young, he was expected to win after making birdie seven times on Sunday, five of which came on the front nine. It all fell apart for him on hole 18 as he bogied on the par four.

Three different golfers tied the course record for strokes in a single round at 62. The record was preiviously set by Branden Grace in 2017. Fox, Burns, and Lucas Herbert all reached the mark over the weekend. Burns also set a course record for best start to a tournament at the course through three rounds before finishing in his third place spot.

The previous winner Scottie Scheffler was tied for fourth as the end with -7. He bogied three times on the back nine to take him out of the race.

Former McNeese Cowboy Robert MacIntyre had a strong start to the tournament, statying in contention through the first two round at -4. The final two rounds weren’t as kind to MacIntyre as he finished above par on Saturday and Sunday, going +1 on both days. Those last two rounds dropped MacIntyre from being in contention to tied for 28th with 11 other golfers.
