Saints fall to Texans 27-13

Saints Texans Preseason

The New Orleans Saints didn’t blow a lead late. In fact, the Saints never had the lead after the opening drive of Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans, losing by the score of 27-13.

The Saints got on the board on the one drive Drew Brees played off a Zack Hocker 28-yarder early in the first quarter.

The Texans responded with an 80-yard drive, finishing with Alfred Blue walking into the endzone to give Houston the lead.

The Texans extended their lead later in the quarter off of a 49-yard field goal by Randy Bullock to make the score 10-3.

Bullock got the Texans another three points off a 29-yarder to extend the lead to 13-3. Zack Hocker cut away at the lead to close out the first half hitting a 53-yarder through the uprights to make it 13-6 at halftime.

The Texans opened up the second half with a methodical drive capping it off with Ryan Mallett throwing it to Jaelen Strong into the endzone to pull away with a 20-6 lead.

The Saints came within one touchdown late in the third quarter with Edwin Baker running 45 yards to the endzone to make it 20-13.

But Tom Savage put the dagger in the Saints chances for a comeback with a short pass to Chandler Worthy to extend the Texans lead and put it out of reach of New Orleans

The Saints close out the preseason with a quick turnaround, traveling to Green Bay for a Thursday night matchup with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 pm.
