The New Orleans Saints made a couple of moves on Thursday to add depth to positions on the offensive side of the football.

Earlier in the day, the Black and Gold signed quarterback Nathan Peterman to compete with second-year signal caller Jake Haener for the backup role. It’ll be a one-year deal that is set at the veteran minimum. Nick Underhill first broke the news via X.com.

Peterman, a 29-year-old quarterback out of Pitt, has bounced around the NFL since getting drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. In his rookie season, he was infamous for throwing five first-half interceptions against the Los Angeles Chargers.

After spending two total seasons in Buffalo and throwing seven more interceptions, Peterman spent two years as a backup for the Las Vegas Raiders and was a Chicago Bear during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The other move the Saints made was adding a veteran receiver in Cedrick Wilson Jr. Adam Schefter was one of the first two to break the news on Thursday night.

Wilson is a 6’2′ 200 lb pass catcher who signed a two-year deal after playing the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. The 29-year-old out of Boise State spent his first three years in the league with the Dallas Cowboys where he caught 67 passes for 837 yards and eight touchdowns.

The veteran receiver then signed with the Dolphins and scored three times last year on 22 catches. Wilson has experience lining up at all three positions as a wide receiver and got a taste of a Shanahan-type scheme with Mike McDaniel in South Florida. He’ll be able to teach the young receivers of Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed the terminology and make the process a more smooth transition as Klint Kubiak takes over as the new offensive coordinator for the Saints.
