NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have added another weapon to the team’s high-powered offense.
NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill first reported that the Saints signed running back-wide receiver Ty Montgomery. The 27-year-old made a name for himself in the NFL during his first four seasons with the Green Bay Packers who drafted him in the third round of the 2015 Draft.
After seeing limited action as a rookie, the 6-foot, 216-pound Montgomery had a breakthrough season in 2016 when he played in 15 games (6 starts), rushing for 457 yards on 77 carries with 3 rushing touchdowns, while also hauling in 44 receptions for 348 yards. Montgomery’s production dipped slightly in 2017 when he rushed for 273 yards on 71 carries and 3 touchdowns while recording 23 receptions for 173 yards and another score.
In 2018, Montgomery started the season playing for Green Bay but was traded to the Baltimore Ravens during the middle of the season for a seventh round draft pick. Montgomery memorably opted to return a kickoff, instead of taking a knee and fumbled, late during a game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Montgomery appeared in 13 games that season rushing for 188 yards and one touchdown while hauling inn 25 receptions for 235 yards.
Montgomery signed with the New York Jets last offseason and had his worst statistical season since he was a rookie as he had 32 rushes for 103 yards, 13 catches for 90 and zero total touchdowns.
Montgomery can also line up at kick returner having returned 53 kickoffs for 1,158 yards and averaging 21.8 yards per return.
