The New Orleans Saints added to their wide receiver room by signing veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Tom Pelissero broke the news on Monday evening via X.

The signing comes the week after the sports world discovered that receiver Rashid Shaheed would miss the remainder of the 2024-2025 season due to reconstructive surgery on his meniscus. MVS scheduled and worked out for the Black and Gold Saturday in New Orleans.

Valdes-Scantling was most recently on the Buffalo Bills roster and was released after the team made a trade to acquire former Browns pass catcher Amari Cooper and needed an open roster spot for the transaction to go through.

The 30-year-old receiver spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers (2018-2021). In that time, Valdes-Scantling caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards, and 13 touchdowns. The past two years were spent in Kansas City as a back-to-back Super Bowl-winning Chiefs member. He hauled in 63 passes for over 1,000 yards, and three scores in those couple of seasons. As a Bill, MVS had two catches for 26 yards in six games.

The Saints’ wide receiver room including their practice squad features Chris Olave, Cedrick Wilson Jr, Bub Means, Mason Tipton, Jermaine Jackson, Kevin Austin Jr, Dante Pettis, and Equanimeous St. Brown.

The Black and Gold have had extra time to find a new receiver since their last game was on Thursday versus the Denver Broncos. Next up for the Saints are the Los Angeles Chargers. That game will be on Sunday, October 27th inside SoFi Stadium at 3:05 p.m. Central Standard Time.
