Scottie Scheffler won the Open Championship in dominant fashion at Royal Portrush on Sunday, finishing four shots clear of the field at -17. The win is the fourth major in the career and now means he has won three of the four majors.

Scheffler began the day with a four-shot lead over Haotong Li. The host of chasers included Rory McIlroy, Harris English, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

A birdie on the very first hole of the day set the tone for Scottie, and he added two more on holes four and five. After Li made two bogeys in that stretch, Scheffler’s lead was safer than ever.

Chris Gotterup became the prime candidate to run down Scheffler, as he posted three-under in his first nine holes. Two more birdies early in his back nine got him to -12, but Scheffler was not slowing down. The world #1 got it to -17 and comfortably held a five-shot advantage down the stretch.

Scottie had it on cruise control down the stretch, with no one getting within four shots. English finished second at -13.

In his home tournament, McIlroy finished Tied for seventh at -10. Former McNeese Cowboy Robert MacIntyre shared that position with Rory.
