LSU-Eunice Baseball picked up another win in the Region 23 tournament, shutting out Pearl River 10-0 in a mercy rule led by a dominant performance by Owen Schexnaydre. The Bengals (51-7) advance to the tournament championship where they will have a rematch with Jones College set for 2:00 PM on Friday.
Schexnaydre (15-0) dominated the PRCC from the jump, handing the Wildcats its first shutout since 2020. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
The Houma native tied Chance Mistric for the single-season record at LSUE set back in 2009. Schexnaydre allowed just two base runners early on after retiring the Pearl River lineup in order.
LSUE benefitted from seven walks, four hit batters, and four Wildcat errors, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead before getting six runs in the third inning from three singles from Ashton Fuselier, Collin Husser, and Tyler Johnson. All three would score on a pair of hit batters and a walk before an errant pick-off scored Alex Dupuy to make it a 6-0 game.
Bennett Clement brought the next two runs in on a squeeze bunt. Then the game was held for a 45-minute weather delay in the fourth inning. An RBI single and a wild pitch after resuming brought in the mercy rule for the Bengals’ 25th mercy-rule victory of the season.
