The end result was never in doubt, but the LSU Tigers (9-2, 5-2 SEC) were able to put together a solid offensive effort on senior night en route to a 42-10 win over Rice (1-11).
The Tigers wasted very little time getting on the board when Clyde Edwards-Helaire capped off a 12-play drive with a three-yard run into the endzone to take the early lead. Later in the first quarter, Joe Burrow connected with Stephan Sullivan on a 38-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.
With it being senior night, the second quarter saw two of the most popular seniors find paydirt with Nick Brossette finding paydirt with a two-yard run to cap off a 10-play drive that took four minutes off the clock. About five minutes later, tight end Foster Moreau found the endzone with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Burrow to make it 28-0.
Rice finished off the first half when Haden Tobola drilled a 51-yard field goal to make it 28-3 at the break. It didn’t get any easier for the Owls though as Brossette found the endzone midway through the third quarter to pretty much put things out of reach. The icing of the cake was put on by Lanard Fournette early in the fourth quarter when he ran it in from three yards out.
LSU will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they trave to Kyle Field to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies (7-4, 4-3 SEC) with kickoff set for 6:30 pm.
