The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns have been a dominant program in the Sun Belt for multiple decades now. However, a new head coach has some asking more questions than usual about the 2025 squad.
Head Coach: Alyson Habetz (1st Year)
2024 Record: 45-19 (22-2 SBC)
2024 Postseason Result: Lost in Regional Final
2025 Preseason Ranking: 2nd in SBC
A NEW ERA
After the 2024 season, Gerry Glasco took the head coaching job at Texas Tech. As a result, a national coaching search ensued and the Ragin’ Cajuns eventually hired Alyson Habetz. Habetz is tasked with continuing a run of dominance that the program has had that has spanned multiple coaches and decades.
WHO’S LEFT?
As is customary these days, plenty of the roster departed when Glasco left. A group of players followed him to Texas Tech. More players entered the transfer portal and went elsewhere. However, there are a group of returners. Those players that chose to stay will be the core of this team, and Coach Habetz will likely look to them as leaders throughout the process of growing with this team. Maddie Hayden, Sam Roe, Kayla Falterman, and more will be apart of that group.
FINALLY CHASING
Despite all the recent success for the Cajuns, this year the preseason polls had a different team atop the rankings. Louisiana was picked second in the conference this season behind Texas State. That was mentioned at the Cajuns’ media day event, and Coach Habetz even said that Sam Roe brought it up to the team as a motivating factor. The Sun Belt has run through Lafayette, Louisiana for a long time now, and this team aims to keep it that way.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns open their season on Thursday, February 6th in the 39th Annual Louisiana Classics when they play Seton Hall at 6:00 PM at Lamson Park.
